Allah’s Creations under the light of Quran & Science

“Men who celebrate the praises of Allah, standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and contemplate the (wonders of) creation in the heavens and the earth, (With the thought): “Our Lord! Not for naught Hast Thou created (all) this! Glory to Thee! Give us salvation from the penalty of the Fire.”  Qur’an 3:191

Let’s begin by acknowledging the fact that we are neither Gods nor we have any knowledge; apart from that we have gained through books and other worldly resources. It is also imperative to pure our heart from any prejudices and notions of how everything came into being and how is it being sustained. The real question is what do you think of God? Give a thought to this

  • If there is a creation, there must be a Creator.
  • If there is a Creator, He must be the Sustainer.
  • The Creator Cannot Create Himself.
  • If He is the sole Creator/Sustainer — He must be ONE.

Do we agree that this is a creation? Or do we accept that nothing came out of nothing to form this entire universe? The Quran clearly states there must be something in existence already which created all that we know to exist. And that “something” needs to be called upon in times of need and thanksgiving. As Allah says in Holy Quran “I only created you all to worship Me Alone.”

Let’s throw some light on the creation of the universe and nature from Islam’s and Science’s perspective.

Creation of the universe

“Then turn He to the heaven when it was smoke, and said unto it and unto the earth: Come both of you, willingly or not. They said: we come obedient” (41:11)

Didn’t the Quran say that the Heaven was smoke before its creation? Modern science has every reason to maintain that the universe was formed from a gaseous mass principally composed of hydrogen and a certain amount of helium that was slowly rotating. We, therefore, see no contradiction in the Quranic use of the Arabic word “dukhan” (translated smoke) and a modern interpretation of that word as “a gaseous mass with fine particles” when speaking of the formation of the universe.

More than one world

According to Holy Quran “Praise to be Allah, Lord of the Worlds”.

Before the science was in its inaugural stage the Quran revealed about the presence of the worlds other than the earth and substantiated the fact that Allah is the sole ruler of all worlds. With scientific progress we now know that there are multiple galaxies and other planets besides Earth.

Sky, without any support

Before the advent of Islam, the pagans believed that mountains acted as pillars for the sky. However, Quran contradicted this in these words “God is He who raised up the heavens without any support…..” (Surah ar-rad, 2).

The proportion of Rain

The Quran states that rain is sent down on earth in specific measure. “It is He who sends down water in due measure from the sky, by which he brings a dead land back to life.” The modern science has discovered the measured quantity in rain. They have estimated that in one second, approximately 16 million tons of water evaporates from the earth, i.e., 513 trillion tons of water in one year. This number is equal to the amount of rain that falls on the Earth in a year.

The rain keeps falling every year in exactly the same quantity as revealed in the Quran. This is yet another great miracle of the Quran.

The Mountains

“Have we not made the earth as a bed, and the mountains as pegs?” (78:6-7)

Geologists have surveyed that mountains have underlying roots. These roots are deeply embedded in the ground, thus, mountains have a shape like a peg. Geologists have proven that mountains have deep roots under the surface of the ground and that these roots can reach several times their elevations above the surface of the ground. So, the most suitable word to describe mountains on the basis of this information is the word ‘peg’. Didn’t the Quran use the word ‘peg’ in the verse above? The modern science has substantiated the truth of Quranic verse.

The seas not mingling with each other

According to Quran “He has set free two seas meeting together. There is a barrier between them. They do not transgress” According to the present-day science where two different seas meet, there is a barrier between them. This barrier divides the two seas so that each has its own temperature, salinity and density. But when the Quran speaks about the divider between the fresh and salt water, it mentions the existence of a “forbidding partition” with the barrier.
